How to use the percentage calculator

Pick the calculator that matches your question and type your numbers. Each box works on its own and updates as you type. Negative numbers and decimals are allowed in the first three boxes.

  • X% of Y: commissions, tips, tax, down payments, “how much is 20% of my salary”.
  • X is what % of Y: exam scores, budget shares, how much of a loan you have paid.
  • Increase or decrease: price changes, salary raises, sales growth, weight loss.
  • Discount price: mall sales and online shopping vouchers.

Worked examples

  • 15% of ₱2,400 = 0.15 × 2,400 = ₱360.
  • 42 out of 50 = 42 ÷ 50 × 100 = 84%.
  • ₱45 to ₱52: (52 − 45) ÷ 45 × 100 = 15.56% increase. From ₱52 back to ₱45 is a 13.46% decrease, because the starting value is different.
  • ₱1,999 at 30% off: you save 1,999 × 0.30 = ₱599.70 and pay ₱1,399.30.

Percent vs. percentage points

If an interest rate goes from 5% to 6%, it went up by 1 percentage point, but by 20 percent (because 1 is 20% of 5). News reports and bank offers sometimes mix these up, so check which one is meant.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compute a percentage of a number?

Divide the percentage by 100 and multiply by the number. For example, 15% of ₱2,400 is 0.15 × 2,400 = ₱360.

How do I find what percent one number is of another?

Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. If you scored 42 out of 50, that is 42 ÷ 50 × 100 = 84%.

How do I compute percentage increase or decrease?

Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value, then multiply by 100. If rice went from ₱45 to ₱52 per kilo, the increase is (52 − 45) ÷ 45 × 100 ≈ 15.56%.

Are two discounts of 20% the same as 40% off?

No. A 20% discount followed by another 20% gives 0.8 × 0.8 = 0.64 of the price, which is 36% off, not 40%. Use the discount calculator twice, entering the first sale price as the new original price.

Is anything I type saved or sent?

No. All calculations happen in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
