How to use the case converter
Type or paste your text in the box. Every format appears below at the same time, so you do not need to pick one first. Press Copy on the result you want and paste it where you need it. This is handy when a heading was typed with Caps Lock on, when a teacher asks for titles in Title Case, or when you need to turn a list of column names into snake_case for a database.
Example: the text XMLHttpRequest id2Name some-mixed_case Words becomes xmlHttpRequestId2NameSomeMixedCaseWords in camelCase, xml_http_request_id2_name_some_mixed_case_words in snake_case and xml-http-request-id2-name-some-mixed-case-words in kebab-case. The heading the state of the nation address: what to expect becomes The State of the Nation Address: What to Expect in Title Case.
About each format
- UPPERCASE / lowercase: every letter in capitals or small letters. Letters like ñ and é are converted correctly.
- Title Case: main words capitalised; a, an, the, and, but, or, for, of, in, on, at, to, by and other short words stay small except at the start or end, or after a colon.
- Sentence case: first letter of each sentence capitalised, the rest small, and the word "I" kept as a capital.
- aLtErNaTiNg and iNVERSE: playful styles for memes and captions. Inverse flips each letter: capitals become small and small become capitals.
- Remove extra spaces: turns double spaces and tabs into one space, trims each line and keeps at most one blank line between paragraphs.
- Remove line breaks: joins broken lines into full paragraphs, which fixes text copied from a PDF. Blank lines between paragraphs are kept.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Title Case and Sentence case?
Title Case capitalises the main words, as in a book or article title: "The Lord of the Rings". Short words such as a, an, the, and, of, in and to stay lowercase unless they are the first or last word. Sentence case capitalises only the first word of each sentence, like normal writing: "The lord of the rings". Many news sites and school style guides use sentence case for headings.
Will Title Case change acronyms like NASA or brand names like iPhone?
No. Words written in all capitals (such as DOH, SSS or NASA) and words with a capital in the middle (such as iPhone, eBay or McDonald) are kept as they are. If your whole text is in capitals, it is treated as normal words and converted fully.
What are camelCase, snake_case and kebab-case used for?
They are naming styles in programming. camelCase (firstName) is common for JavaScript and Java variables, PascalCase (FirstName) for class names, snake_case (first_name) for Python and database columns, CONSTANT_CASE (MAX_SIZE) for constants, kebab-case (first-name) for web addresses and CSS classes, and dot.case for config keys. Each line of your input is converted separately, so you can convert a whole list of names at once.
How does it split words like "XMLHttpRequest"?
It breaks words at spaces, punctuation, hyphens and underscores, and also where the capitalisation changes. So "XMLHttpRequest" becomes XML + Http + Request, "id2Name" becomes id2 + Name, and "some-mixed_case" becomes some + mixed + case. Numbers stay attached to the word before them.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Every conversion happens in your browser as you type. Nothing is uploaded or saved.
