How to compress an image to a specific size
- Choose the output format. JPG is accepted by almost every job portal and government website.
- Pick the size limit stated on the form, such as under 100 KB, or enter a custom size in KB.
- Optionally set a maximum width/height if the form also limits the pixel dimensions.
- Drop one or more images. Each one shows its size and dimensions before and after.
- Download each file, or click Download all. Changed your mind? Adjust the settings and click Re-compress.
How it works
The tool tries the highest quality first. If the file is too big, it searches for the best JPG or WebP quality that still fits the limit. If even a low quality is too large, it shrinks the width and height step by step and tries again. The result is the sharpest image that fits under your target.
Common size limits in the Philippines
Online forms for jobs, schools, scholarships and government services often limit uploads to a few hundred KB. Examples include 2×2 ID photos, scanned IDs, signatures, diplomas and transcripts. Limits differ between sites and change over time, so always follow the limit shown on the form you are filling out. This site is not affiliated with any government agency or job portal.
Example
A phone photo of a TOR (transcript of records) is 3.8 MB at 4000×3000 pixels, but the application portal only accepts files under 200 KB. Choose JPG and Under 200 KB, then drop the photo. The tool lowers the quality and, if needed, the size, for example to around 190 KB at 2000×1500 pixels. The text stays readable and the file uploads on the first try.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Compression happens entirely in your browser on your own phone or computer. Your photos, IDs and scanned documents never leave your device.
Why is my compressed file a little smaller than the target?
We aim just under the limit and count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes. Some websites count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes, so aiming slightly lower makes sure the file passes either way.
Why did the width and height of my image get smaller?
If the file is still too big even at the lowest acceptable quality, the tool reduces the dimensions step by step until it fits. This keeps text and faces readable instead of turning the image into blurry blocks.
Should I choose JPG or WebP?
Choose JPG for government forms and job portals, because almost every website accepts it. WebP makes smaller files at the same quality, but some older upload forms reject it.
Can I compress a PNG to a target size?
PNG is lossless, so it cannot be squeezed to an exact size. The PNG option only resizes the image. If you need a small file, convert it to JPG instead; scanned documents and photos usually look the same.
