Unit Converter

Convert length, area, weight, temperature, volume, speed and data units as you type, in either direction. Includes feet and inches for height, pounds and ounces, hectares and old Philippine land units.

Quick reference

How to use the unit converter

Pick a category, then choose the units in From and To. Type a number in either box and the other box updates straight away, so you can convert both ways without pressing anything. Tap ⇄ to flip the units. Commas and spaces in numbers are fine, so 1,500 and 1 500 both work.

  • Height: choose “Feet + inches” to type 5 and 7 in the two boxes, or type 5'7" in the first box.
  • Baby or body weight: choose “Pounds + ounces” to read 3.2 kg as 7 lb 0.88 oz.
  • Rounding: Smart rounding shows up to 4 decimals for normal numbers and more for very small ones. Pick a fixed number of decimals if you need it.
  • The quick reference table lists common values for the units you picked. Your last category and units are remembered, and the page link keeps them too, so you can share or bookmark a pair such as sqm to sq ft.

Worked examples

  • Lot size: a 150 sqm lot is 150 ÷ 0.09290304 = 1,614.59 sq ft. A 2-hectare farm is 20,000 sqm, or about 4.94 acres.
  • Height: 5'7" is 67 inches × 2.54 = 170.18 cm.
  • Balikbayan box weight: 50 kg is 50 ÷ 0.45359237 = 110.23 lb.
  • Fever check: 38 °C is 38 × 9/5 + 32 = 100.4 °F.
  • Old land title: 3 balitas is 3 × 2,795 = 8,385 sqm, or about 0.84 hectare.

Exact values used

These are the official definitions, so the results are exact up to rounding:

  • 1 inch = 2.54 cm, 1 foot = 12 inches = 30.48 cm, 1 mile = 1,609.344 m, 1 nautical mile = 1,852 m.
  • 1 hectare = 10,000 sqm, 1 acre = 4,046.8564224 sqm, 1 sq ft = 0.09290304 sqm.
  • 1 pound = 0.45359237 kg = 16 ounces, 1 stone = 14 pounds.
  • 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 L = 16 US cups, 1 UK gallon = 4.54609 L, 1 US tablespoon = 3 teaspoons ≈ 14.79 mL.
  • 1 knot = 1 nautical mile per hour = 1.852 km/h, 1 mph = 1.609344 km/h.
  • 1 KB = 1,000 bytes and 1 KiB = 1,024 bytes; 1 byte = 8 bits.
  • Old Philippine land units (Act No. 1519, 1906): 1 loan = 279.5 sqm, 1 balita = 2,795 sqm, 1 quiñon = 27,950 sqm.

Frequently asked questions

How many square feet are in a square meter?

1 square meter is about 10.7639 square feet, because 1 foot is exactly 0.3048 m and 0.3048 × 0.3048 = 0.09290304 m² per square foot. So a 24 sqm condo unit is about 258.33 sq ft, and a 1,000 sq ft house is about 92.9 sqm.

What is 5'7" in cm?

5 feet 7 inches is 67 inches, and 67 × 2.54 = 170.18 cm. Going the other way, 170 cm is 5 ft 6.93 in, which most people round to 5'7". Choose "Feet + inches" as one of the units to type or read heights this way.

What are balita, quiñon and loan?

They are old Spanish-era land units still seen in old land titles and deeds in the Philippines. Act No. 1519 (1906) set their metric values: 1 loan = 279.5 sqm, 1 balita = 2,795 sqm (10 loans) and 1 quiñon = 27,950 sqm or about 2.8 hectares (10 balitas). Local usage could differ by province, so check the exact figure with a geodetic engineer or the Registry of Deeds for legal work.

Why does my 1 TB drive show only 931 GB?

Drive makers use decimal units, where 1 TB is 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. Windows counts in binary units of 1,024, so it shows 1 TB as about 931 "GB", which are really gibibytes (GiB). No space is missing; it is the same number of bytes counted two ways. This converter labels the decimal (KB, MB, GB) and binary (KiB, MiB, GiB) units separately.

Is a US gallon the same as a UK gallon?

No. A US gallon is exactly 3.785411784 liters, while a UK (imperial) gallon is exactly 4.54609 liters, about 20% bigger. US cups, tablespoons and fluid ounces are also slightly different from UK ones. Recipes and products from the US use US units.

Can I convert cups to grams?

Not with one fixed number, because a cup is a volume and grams are a weight. A cup of water weighs about 237 g, but a cup of flour weighs around 120–130 g and a cup of sugar about 200 g. Convert cups to mL here, then use the weight per cup of your ingredient.

Is anything I type saved or sent?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser. Only your last chosen category and units are remembered on your device so the page opens the way you left it.
